Edson Harvey Owen, 85, of Newport, RI, formerly of Plymouth, MA and Ridgefield, CT died March 9 in Newport. Mr. Owen was born November 18, 1930 in Jersey City, NJ. He was the son of the late Edson H. Owen and Marguerite F. Owen. He had three sisters, Margie, Beverly and Joyce. He was an architectural specification writer, known for work on famous buildings such as the American Embassy in Cairo, Egypt and the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. He was with Wood, Angus and Owen in New York and later became a consultant in his field. Edson had a love of sailing and cruising on Long Island Sound and the waters of Maine. He was a member of the Lions Club. In his later years he shone as a kind, warm friend to all.Mr. Owen is survived by former wife Ming Owen of Easton, MA. In addition he leaves two daughters, Derrith Owen of Newport, RI and Stephanie O.Akers of Ledyard, CT and two sons: Ronald Owen of Windham, CT and Benedict Owen of Ledyard, CT and their mother, Mary A. Sachs. Mr. Owen has two surviving sisters: Beverly Cirelli and Joyce Neri. Six grandchildren include: Sonya Owen, Joshua Owen, Arielle Owen Chaves, Chelsea M. Nix, Christian Owen Chaves and Louisa Owen Sonstroem. He also leaves four great-grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews.
