Edward J. "Ted" Murphy

Bayonne, NJ - Edward J. "Ted" Murphy passed away unexpectedly at Bayonne Medical Center in New Jersey, on Saturday June 23, 2012. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on July 30, 1956, the son of Laura (Nunes) Murphy of Portsmouth, RI and Edward E. Murphy of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA. He leaves three children, Alexandra, Mary, and Shawn of San Rafael, CA and a brother Thomas F. Murphy and his wife Marguerite of Morris Plains, NJ and a sister Beth Murphy of Middletown, RI, as well as 3 nephews in New Jersey.Ted graduated from Tottenville High School, Staten Island, NY in 1974 and was on the school football team. He and his family then moved to California and he attended the College of Marin. His career on the ocean began in California, when he worked for the the Maersk Line, and eventually worked his way up to tug boat Captain in San Francisco Bay. Ted then moved to New Jersey and worked for the APM Terminal in Bayonne.His funeral will be held on Saturday, June 30, 2012 at 11:00am in St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871. Burial will be private.Pallbearers were Paul Ruscetta, Bobby Coughlin, Joe Lalli, John Murphy, Bill Mercer and Chris Correia.Donations in his memory may be made to St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871.
