Edward Lawrence Paige, 90, of 67 Hillside Avenue, Newport, died Friday, September 16, 2011 at Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center, Providence.He was the husband of the late Avis Marcella Texeira Paige.Born in Newport News, VA on July 21, 1921, he was the son of the late LeRoy I. and Agnes Sutton Paige.Mr. Paige served during World War II in the Pacific in the US Army. He worked for 23 years for the New York Transit Authority, retiring in 1977 as a Tunnel Officer. Mr. Paige was a member of Community Baptist Church, a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, a life member of the NAACP and member of the Masonic Temple, Stone Mill Lodge in Newport. He was also a former member of the Fraternal Order of Police in NY, a member and Past President of the United Veterans Council, a former member of the Newport Rifle Club, a charter member of the Columbia Rifle and Pistol Club in NY, New York City Gateways Commission and the New York State Police Association.He is survived by daughter-in-law Valerie Paige of Lancaster, CA, grandson Edward L Paige of New York, and granddaughters Tiffany Paige and Tamara Paige of Lancaster, CA, as well as ten great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, including Joan Boone of Englewood, NJ, Patricia Ashley of Waldorf, MD, Lillian Washington of Bronx, NY and several others. He was preceded in death by his son Edward L. Paige Jr, and his sisters Helen Pope, Cleo Holiness, and Lorraine Anthony, and his brother LeRoy Paige. His funeral will be held on Saturday, September 24 with visitation from 10:00-11:00 in the Community Baptist Church, 50 Dr. Marcus Wheatland Boulevard, Newport, followed by a funeral service at 11:00am in Church.
