Edward Lawrence Kardel

Newport, - Edward Lawrence Kardel, 70, of 19B Pond Avenue Newport, died Thursday, April 17, 2003 at Newport Hospital Newport, RI. He was the husband of Geraldine Girouard Kardel. Born in Newport, RI on September 15, 1932, he was the son of the late Eugene and Susan Oakley Kardel. A veteran of the US Army, Mr. Kardel served in Germany during the Korean War. He was a bartender at Salas Restaurant for many years. Mr. Kardel was a member of the VFW Post 4487 of Middletown. Besides his wife he is survived by two sons Michael Kardel of Babson Park, FL, and Ronald Kardel of Newport, RI, five daughters Charlotte Greene of Fairfield, CA, Susan Gustaits of South Kingstown, RI, Joan Kardel of Newport, RI, Patricia Arroyo of Newport, RI, and Elizabeth Nelson of Newport, RI, his brother Paul Kardel of Somerset, MA, four sisters Mary Herterick and Barbara Henriques both of Middletown, RI, Margaret Morris of Newport, RI, and Carol Craft of Middletown, RI, his stepdaughter Rosemary LaRock of Manchester, NH, fourteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren, two step grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Eugene Kardel and stepfather of the late Clifford LaRock. His funeral will be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2003, at 9:00AM, in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Burial will be in Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter.
