Edward John Lindquist, 84, of Newport, Rhode Island, formerly of Portsmouth, Rhode Island, and Japan, passed away in the St. Clare Home on March 12, 2025.
Born in Fall River, MA on July 11, 1940, he was the son of the late James L. and Rita (Moffitt) Lindquist. He attended De La Salle Academy in Newport and graduated from Baltimore Preparatory Academy before attending Bristol Community College.
A proud U.S. Army veteran, Edward served during the Vietnam Era and attained the rank of Private First Class before his honorable discharge on August 31, 1969. Upon leaving the US Army, he became the Director of the Jamestown Recreation Center. He spent 25 years as the Aquatics Director of the Fall River YMCA and five years as Building Supervisor of the Quequechan Club.
Edward was a man of many passions, including swimming, tennis, and golf, which he pursued with vigor. His love for swimming and promoting healthy living was evident in the countless lives he touched throughout his career. He was well-respected in his customer service role, where his warmth and kindness were matched only by his unwavering dedication.
Edward dedicated his professional life to the service of others. He was a Sunday School teacher at St. Matthew's in Jamestown and served on the vestry of Church of the Ascension in Fall River. Upon retiring to Florida, he fulfilled a life-long desire to become a teaching assistant for Special Needs Children.
Edward leaves a son, USMC Ret. MGySgt. Jonathan (Melissa) Lindquist and four grandchildren, USMC SSgt. Sheehan (Wendy), USA 1st Lt. Joshua (Brielle), Ryan and Brooke and four great-grandchildren, Mason, Chandler, Riley and Beau. He is survived by his twin sister, Edalene (Jan) Menzi, and his best friends Elizabeth and Paul Di Censo and the Sheehan Family. He was predeceased by his son, Edward J. Lindquist, Jr., a brother Frederick (Eleanor) Lindquist, and sisters Karin (James) Capiello, and Jean (Kenneth) Rockett.
Services for Mr. Lindquist will be private.
