Ed Malzacher, 82 of Newport, RI; Oklahoma; and Missouri died on March 11, 2015, of heart and liver failure, after excellent care at Newport Hospital.Born in Newport, RI he was a first generation American; son of the late Otto Malzacherwho emigrated from southern Germany and became a citizen in 1930. Thereafter, Otto returned to Tuttlingen, Germany to marry (Luise) Julie (Brustle) Malzacher in 1930, and brought her to America.Ed is divorced, an only survived by his brother Herbert Malzacher of Wisconsin, and his wife Helen Marie (Teply) Malzacher.Ed completed Rogers High School in 1952, and joined the Air Force. Stationed in Wichita Falls, Texas he served as a mechanic in active and reserve duty until 1956. By 1959 he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education and Science, with other major course-work in history, social studies, and English, from Midwestern State University. In 1973 he completed an Administration of Public Schools Master's Degree From South Western Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, OK.Moving to Oklahoma, Ed had progressive teaching and guidance roles. Then he became high school vice principle at Shawnee, OK (1976-1977); vice principle and principle at Tecumseh, OK (1978-1982); principle at Pleasant Grove, OK (1983-1984); and retired in 1985 as superintendent of schools in Fairland, OK. Between 1989 and 1996, he continued his work with children as a social worker in Missouri, retiring for the second time in 1999.His interests included: training champion horses for rodeo barrel racing, sailing Oklahoma lakes and reservoirs, and prize-winning stained glass artistry. After his second retirement Ed returned to Newport. This enabled Ed to lead tours of Newport mansions (Breakers, Marble House, Belcourt Castle, etc.) for six years - thus truly exemplifying his extraordinary story-telling ability, captivating mannerisms, and extensive knowledge of Newport history.Friends and acquaintances are invited to Memorial Funeral Home, September 14, 2017 from 9:00 am to 10:00 am. The celebration of Ed's life will begin at 10:00 AM. Scattering of Ed's ashes will take place at Breton Point at a later date.
