NEWPORT, RI - Edward R. Keenan, 82 of 20 Fenner Avenue, Newport, died Saturday April 16th, 2005 at his home. Born in Hartford, CT on July 14, 1922, he was the youngest son of William and Clara Dougherty Keenan. He attended Bulkeley High School in Hartford, CT and graduated from the University of Connecticut with a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was a World War II veteran and served as a B-17 gunner in the Army Air Corps. He relocated to Newport in 1951 where he was employed at the Naval Underwater Systems Center now known as Naval Undersea Warfare Center until his retirement in 1980. Formerly, he was an active member of the Newport Ski Club, the Newport Yacht Club, and the choir at St. Mary?s Church. He enjoyed all kinds of music, especially jazz, and he had a passion for the waterfront.He is survived by his sons David Keenan and his wife Karen of Sykesville, MD, Paul Keenan and his wife Barbara of Harrisville, RI, Michael Keenan and his wife Claire of Madison, CT; his daughters Susan Keenan of New York, NY, Christine Phillips and her husband Gary of Slingerlands, NY; a former wife Mildred Keenan of Newport, RI, a brother, William Keenan of Wethersfield, CT, 10 grandchildren Patrick Keenan, Daniel Keenan, Joseph Keenan, Peter Keenan, Mark Keenan, Kevin Keenan, Michelle Keenan, Sarah Keenan, Caitlin Keenan, and Julie Keenan and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late John ?Jack? Keenan of Oxford, MA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, April 21, 2005, at 9:00AM in St. Mary?s Church, Spring Street, Newport. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery, Brown?s Lane, Middletown.
