On Tuesday, July 27 2021, with his family by his side, Edward Raposa passed away peacefully at home and was reunited in heaven with his loving wife of 53 years, Barbara. Eddie was born on February 15 (or 17th depending on who you ask) 1938 to John and Emily (Alvanas) Raposa. He was a wonderful husband to Barbara for 53 years, during which time they had 3 loving children together; Cari, Cynthia and Stephen.
Over the years he was the backbone of the family in his own silent way. Although a quiet man, he was always supportive of Barbara as she pursued her dreams to become a nurse in the early years of their marriage and his children and their endeavors (both good and bad). He was an avid Red Sox fan and a light-hearted guy who with his quick wit could bring laughter to any occasion.
In his younger years he worked as a mechanic for Grants and Johnny's Getty in Middletown. He later began his career in maintenance with Raytheon Corporation in Portsmouth. Upon retirement, he continued his career in maintenance for both Portsmouth and Middletown Police Departments. Always a busy man, Eddie also had a painting business with his partner John Oliveira for many years.
Eddie is survived by his children, Cari Beck (Tim), Cynthia Seamans (Mark), Stephen (Eva), and his loving grandchildren Emily (Ben) Fisher, Catherine Beck, Jessica Seamans, Savannah and Evan Raposa to whom he was fondly known as "poppa" or "papa" (an ongoing friendly banter amongst the grandchildren) as well as great-grandson Elliott Fisher. In addition to his children with Barbara, Eddie leaves behind his sons Edward (Sandy) and James Woodward, daughter in law Kelly Hartner (Eric) and all of their children and grandchildren. He will be missed by his brothers William Raposa (Merhlee), Leroy Raposa (Gail), sister in laws Carol Bowers (Walter), Diane Howell (Glen) and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Eddie was preceded in death by his brothers John Rapoza and Richard (Lorraine) Raposa, sister Shirley Durfee, and sister in law Ellen Gallagher (Ernie).
Family and friends are invited to join in a celebration of life for Edward at the family residence, 46 Carter Drive, Portsmouth, RI on Wednesday August 4, 2021 from 5-8 pm.
