Newport, - Edward Reeves Massey, 86, of Newport, died Thursday, June 19, 2014 at Village House Nursing Home Newport, RI, Born in Newport, he was the son of the late Milton C. and Alfaretta (Gaines) MasseyEdward worked alongside his brothers at Dugan Bros. for many years. He was an avid bowler and a boxer in his youth. He loved family picnics and outings and loved doing puzzles in his later years. He is survived by his children Ned A. Massey, Edward R. Massey Jr., Eric C. Massey, Donna M. Massey, Lisa G. Neves, Deborah Greene, Karen L. Massey, all of Newport and Sloane Z. Massey of Pawtucket. He was the brother of Harold Massey and Loretta Massey both of Newport as well as Floretta Sheffield of Ct. He also leaves ten grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and one great great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.Edward was the former husband of the late Barbara Carter Massey and the longtime companion of the late Rose Ribero McCray. He was the grandfather of the late Theodore Oliveira, Jr. and brother of the late Thomas Massey, Sr., Milton Massey, Jr., Elva Massey and Millicent Massey.Graveside services will be held Thursday at 10:00am at Newport Memorial Park. Followed by a memorial service at 11:00am in Mt. Zion Church, Van Zandt Avenue, Newport. .
