Newport, RI - Edward W. Young, Newport, RI, passed away on June 22 at Newport Hospital, after a brief illness. He was the son of the late William and Elizabeth Oliver Young.Ed worked for the Newport Creamery from 1952 to 1997 retiring as plant manager. He saw service for his country first in the US Merchant Marine and was later drafted by the US Army and served as a field cook in Korea. Most of Eds life was devoted to helping others and volunteering for various organizations. His main focus was Trinity Church where he was a jack-of-all-trades, assisting in every aspect of the daily routine of the church as well as a member of the choir. Ed spent numerous hours at the Museum of Yachting sanding, painting and polishing anything that didnt move. He was on the Board of Directors of the Nina Lynette Home, Building and Grounds Chair, as well as a member of the Seamans Institute, the Jaycees, the Camp Miskiania and the North End Club. Coffee in the mornings at the Cookie Jar and dinners at the Handy Lunch were truly enjoyable times for Ed. Numerous organizations and institutions benefitted from Eds generosity and volunteering, among them are the Newport Naval War College, Redwood Library, SVF Foundation, Newport Jazz and Folk Festivals, the Robert Potter League for Animals and most certainly a few more his family didnt know about. He was a great guy.Ed is survived by his children, Paul Sauve and his wife Jerilyn, and Nancy Donovan and her husband Gerard of Newport, his sister Isabel Negus of Tiverton and his brother William and his wife Millie of Wyoming, and his cousin Jackie Mara of New Hampshire. Also surviving are grandchildren, Brandon, Matthew, Jared Erin and Michaela Sauve, Regan Wagner Jason, Corey Donovan Quinn Philip and Jill Donovan, great grandchildren, Brittany, Tyler, Jack, Evan, Madelyn, Alexis and Van.He was predeceased by his wife of 54 years Evelyn Pat Ferreira Young in 2008.Calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 24, 2010, from 4-7pm in the funeral home.His funeral will be held on Friday, June 25, 2010, at 9:00 am Hambly Funeral Home, Brick House, 30 Red Cross Avenue, Newport, with a funeral service at 10:00 am in Trinity Church, Queen Anne Square, Newport.Burial will be in Newport Memorial Park in Middletown.Donations in Eds memory may be made to Trinity Church, Queen Anne Square, Newport RI 02840.
