Edwin Alden Coolbaugh, 76, of Portsmouth died Thursday, April 7, 2016 at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence, RI. He was the husband of Susan E. (Cruickshank) Coolbaugh. Born on June 28, 1939 in Peterson, NJ, he was the son of the late Edwin and Anchen (Wulstein) Coolbaugh. Dr. Coolbaugh served in the United States Coast Guard. He was a graduate of Taber Academy, he received his Bachelor's Degree from Rutgers, his Masters from the University of New Haven and his PHD from Salve Regina University. He was a Professor at Johnson and Wales from 1991 until his retirement in 2008. Dr. Coolbaugh was a member of the Newport Rifle Club, the Seaboard Lodge No 56 in Portsmouth, VA and was a motor coach, classic cars and boating enthusiast. Besides his wife of almost 30 years in June, he is survived by his sister Colette Coolbaugh of Lawrenceville, NJ, his son Edwin Coolbaugh II and his wife Misha of Spencer, MA, and his two grandchildren, Gabe and Tatiana. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, April 13, 2016, from 4-6pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, followed by a service at 6pm. Burial will be private.
