Eileen Mary Horan, 87 of Middletown, RI, formerly of Portsmouth RI, passed away gracefully at home surrounded by her loving family, August 10, 2014.Born October 23, 1926, in Pawtucket, RI of the late Andrew Wright Buckley and Florence (Audette) Buckley and the wife of the late Roy Horan Jr. She attended Rogers High School and graduated in the class of 1944.She worked at the Torpedo Station on Goat Island in Accounting at the Navy Base Bond Office before she married Roy Horan Jr, of Winter Park, FL. He predeceased her in 1971 and being the only love for her, she devoted herself to raising their eight children.She was the President of the former Catholic Women's Club of St. Anthony's Church, Chairman of the Portsmouth Action Committee of New Visions, Public Relations Director for the Portsmouth Churches Seminar, Vice President of the Parish Advisory Board for St. Anthony's Church, Moderator for the Adult Debate Symposium; organizer and member of the following: Portsmouth Ecumenical Council of Churches, Citizens Advisory Committee, Portsmouth School Committee (member of the Needs Assessment Committee), helped develop the Scope Survey to improve the Portsmouth Education System. She is survived by her eight children, Roy Horan, III and his wife Christina of Hong Kong, Steve Horan and his wife Parvaneh of Portsmouth, Patricia Brown and her husband Steve of Winter Spring, Florida, Coleen Kempenaar, of Middletown, Mark Horan of Newport, Kelly Horan Eads of Portsmouth, Shannon Horan Pearson, of Newport, JoAnn Sevigny and her husband Keith of Newport Coast, CA. Grandchildren: Celina and Jillian Horan, Matthew Berman and his wife Melissa Brecher and Aaron Berman, Adam, Stewart, Greg and Bryan Brown, Kajsa Kempenaar Doyle and her husband Ryan, Eileen and Austin Eads, Brooke, Joile and Ruby Sevigny. Great grandchildren: Konnor and Kinleigh Doyle, Alexa and Miles Berman.She sacrificed for her family, not because she had to, but because she wanted to and for her it was never a sacrifice. She was the happiest when all her children, their spouses, grandchildren and great grandchildren surrounded her. There was no limit to her love as she embraced everyone with kindness and compassion. She offered sage advice, but only when asked. She loved the arts and was a self-taught oil painter, loved music and was an avid reader. Always positive and never judgmental, she was a treasure to her family and friends. Her faith knew no boundaries as she raised her family with an abundance of love, so that they too would carry on her fundamental love and respect for each other and of humanity. Eileen will remain in our hearts, as we remember her bright smile and twinkling eyes, she will never truly be gone.
