Elaine H. Smith

Newport, RI - Elaine H. Smith, 75, of 87 Girard Avenue, Newport, RI, died Sunday, July 27, 2008 at home. Born in Bronx, NY on October 14, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Anna Muller Hofmann. She lived most of her childhood in Springfield, Ma, graduating from Commerce High School in 1950. Prior to her marriage to Norval Smith, she worked in the insurance industry. She enjoyed country crafts, pottery and spending time with her family. She is survived by three sons, Daryl N. Smith of Coventry, CT, Gary R. Smith of Brooklyn, CT, and Wesley T. Smith of Bristol, RI, her brother Robert Hofmann and wife Jean of North Conway, NH, five grandchildren and one great grandchild, along with many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two daughters, Cheryl Ann Smith and Lesley Ann Smith.A Memorial service will be held Thursday, August 7, 2008, at 10:00am in the Pomfret Congregational Church, Pomfret Center, CT, 06259, followed by burial in the Pomfret Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society of Rhode Island, 931 Jefferson Boulevard, Suite 3004, Warwick, RI 02886. We will miss you, Mom. The boys.
