Middletown, RI - Eleanor Wilburn Picard, 89, of formerly of Blenheim-Newport, Valley Road, Middletown, RI, died Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at Village House Nursing Home, Newport, RI.She was the wife of the late Francis Joseph Picard. Born in Union, SC on July 19, 1920, she was the daughter of the late William Wallace and Ella Wilburn Wilburn.Mrs. Picard met her husband Francis during World War II and moved to Fall River where she worked as a ward secretary for Charlton Memorial Hospital. While living in Fall River she was a member of the First Baptist Church. She was relied on by her family and was the caretaker for her mother and brother. After her husband passed away, she moved back to South Carolina in 1983, where she was a member of the Garden Club. She was a talented seamstress and cook and enjoyed travelling. Mrs. Picard lived at Blenheim-Newport for over five years where she was a member of the Red Hat Society and participated in the Welcoming Committee. She is survived by her sons David Picard and his wife Robin J. Picard of Newport, RI, and Francis J. Picard, Jr. of Union, SC, her granddaughters, Amy Elizabeth Picard, Shannon Marie Brooks, Megan Eleanor Picard and Rebecca Jane Picard-Smith, and her nieces and nephews Bettina K. Holder, Eleanor Inez Holder and William Holder.She was the sister of the late William Wallace Wilburn, Jr., David Mobley Wilburn, Grover Whitmire Wilburn and Mary Bernard Wilburn. Her funeral will be held on Friday, April 16, 2010 at 9:00am in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Burial will be in National Veterans Cemetery, Bourne, MA.
