Eleanor R. Nielsen

Middletown, RI - Eleanor R. OConnell Nielsen, 82, of John Clarke Nursing Home, Middletown, RI, formerly of 70 Hargraves Drive, Portsmouth, died Sunday, April 18, 2010 at the nursing home.She was the wife of the late Niels T. Nielsen. Born in Taylors, SC on November 1, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Mary McCarthy OConnell.Mrs. Nielsen worked at the Almy House in Portsmouth for many years. She was an avid reader, loved to travel and wintered in Florida. She is survived by her children, James M. Nielsen of Claremont, NH, Paul A. Nielsen of Bella Vista, AR, Kathleen W. Prendergast of Middletown, RI and Mary N. Henriques of Newport, RI, her sister Mary Alice Tate of Portsmouth, RI, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.She was the sister of the late Ralph OConnell, Jr. Her funeral will be held on Thursday, April 22, 2010 at 11:00am in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.Burial will be private.Calling hours will be held on Wednesday evening from 4 -8 pm in the funeral home.Donations in her memory may be made to John Clarke Nursing Home Activities Fund, 600 Valley Road, Middletown, RI 02842.
