Eleanor Sliwa Tabak, 97, of Portsmouth RI passed away at home on June 3, 2024.
Eleanor grew up in Roxbury, MA. She enjoyed talking about growing up in Boston in the 1930's and 40's.
As a young woman, Eleanor joined the Krakowiak Polish Folk Dancers, where she met her late husband Antoni Tabak. After working in an office for a few years, Eleanor went to Boston Teacher's College. She worked as a grade school teacher for two years until starting a family. Later she received a Master's Degree in Library Science from Boston University and worked for thirteen years as a grade school librarian at Johnson School in Bethel, CT.
In 1970, Eleanor, "Toni" and the three boys embarked on a month long adventure. They traveled by van from their home in Pittsburg across Canada to the Alaskan panhandle. Eleanor had a lifelong passion for sewing and gardening.
Eleanor is pre-deceased by her husband, Antoni Tabak and son, Andrew Tabak, husband to Ying Tabak.
She is survived by son, Leon Tabak and his wife, Christine of Mount Vernon, Iowa as well as son, Stefan Tabak and his wife, Malgorzata, with whom she resided. Eleanor is the grandmother of Ariel, Avidan, Louis, Magdalena and Maciej. She is also survived Magdalena's fiancé, Nolan O'Brien. She has one surviving sibling, Elizabeth Hallett of Turners Falls, MA.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 18,2024 at 10:00 am at St. Anthony's Church, 2836 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI.
