Elinor M. Greichen

Newport, RI - Elinor M. Libby Greichen, 78, of 6 Gillies Court, Newport, RI, died Monday, August 17, 2009 at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI with her family by her side. Born in Johnston, RI on July 15, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Rose Scungio Libby.Known fondly as Mother Superior of the Officers Club, Elinor retired from the Naval Station Newport in 2003 after 33 years of dedication and service. She was a communicant of St. Augustins Church. Favorite pastimes were blowing bubbles with her great-grandson Pat and having coffee with neighbors on the Court. She is survived by her sons Marc Greichen and his wife Sandy of Boynton Beach, FL and Robert Greichen of Middletown, RI, her daughter Sharon OGrady of Bothell, WA, her brother George Libby and his wife Ellie of Hendersonville, NC, her sister Evelyn Hopkins and her husband Henry of Hendersonville, NC, her grandson Patrick Greichen, her granddaughter Kerri Greichen and her great grandson Patrick Greichen.She was the sister of the late Harry Libby, Jr. and Jennie Balme.Her funeral will be held on Friday, August 21, 2009, at 9:30am, in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.Burial will be private.Calling hours will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2009, from 4-7pm in the funeral home.
