MIDDLETOWN, RI ? Elisa ?Elsie? Pascua Romero, 66, of 22 Algonquin Drive, Middletown, RI, died Tuesday, January 31, 2006, after a short illness, with her family by her side. She was the wife of Ricardo F. Romero. Born in LaAminos, Pangasinan, Philippines, on July 6, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Feliciano and Angela Fontanilla Pascua. While a young woman in the Philippines, Mrs. Romero was a school teacher. After moving to Newport she worked as a nurse at the Newport Hospital. She received her bachelors degree from Roger Williams College and her Masters Degree from Providence College. After receiving her degrees she began work as a social worker and case manager at the Newport Hospital on Tower 8 where she led various groups and counseling sessions for the patients. In total, she worked at the hospital for over 35 years. Mrs. Romero was an active member of the Philippine American Association and St. Lucys Church. She was very active in teaching Philippine children dancing at Phil-Am and enjoyed gardening at her home. Besides her husband of 45 years, she is survived by her son Rick Romero of Newport, RI, her brother Pol Pascua and her sister Perla Pagador of the Philippines and various nieces and nephews in Australia and the Philippines. Her funeral will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2006, at 8:00AM from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian burial at 9:00AM in St. Lucys Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown. Burial will be in the Philippines.Calling hours will be held on Friday, February 3, 2006, from 4-8PM in the Memorial Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to the American Stroke Association, New England Affiliate, 20 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701 or to Phil-Am Association of Newport County, P.O. Box 6051, Middletown, RI 02842.
