Elizabeth Ann Spillane

Elizabeth Ann (Brennan) Spillane, 91, of Middletown died peacefully Monday, December 10, 2012 at home in Middletown, surrounded by her family.Born March 31, 1921 in County Kerry, Ireland, she was the daughter of the late Bartholomew and Bridget (Callahane) Brennan. She was the wife of the late Jerome Francis Spillane. Mrs. Spillane attended nursing school at Sally Oak Hospital in Birmingham, England during World War II. She worked as a registered nurse at the Newport Hospital for 10 years, after that time, she owned and operated her own business, Spillane Nursing Home at 22 Arnold Ave. In her later years, she was involved in Real Estate development.She is survived by her children, Francis P. Spillane and Patricia Carney both of Middletown, RI, her brothers, John J. Brennan of Newport, RI, and Frank Brennan of Sydney, Australia, and five grandchildren, Michael and Timothy Spillane, Christopher J., Thomas P and Sarah Elizabeth Carney She was the sister of the late Bartholomew Brennan, James Brennan, Maureen Lambe, Helena Barker and Johanna Cutler.Calling hours will be held on Thursday December 13, 2012 from 5:00-8:00 pm in the Memorial Funeral Home 375 Broadway Newport, RIHer funeral will be held on Friday December 14, 2012, at 9:00 am from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Josephs Church, Broadway and Mann Avenue, Newport, RI.
