Newport, RI ? Elizabeth ?Betty? D. Lazar Olaynack, nee Lazar, age 67, of 7 Kyle Terrace, Newport, RI, died Wednesday, October 3, 2007 at home surrounded by her family. Betty waged a courageous battle with cancer for almost nine years, never once letting it affect her spirits and love for her family and friends, all of whom she valued above all else in her life. She was the beloved wife of Joseph ?Skip? H. Olaynack, Jr. Born in Portland, ME on July 31, 1940, she was the cherished daughter of Peter K. Lazar and the late Helen Peters Lazar. Betty graduated from Rogers High School in 1957 and Simmons College in 1961. After starting her career in merchandising with Filene?s Department Store in Boston, MA, Betty returned to Newport, RI, where she served as the Executive Assistant to Mason Rector, Founder of Newport Creamery, Inc. After placing her career on hold in order to raise her three children, Betty joined her father and brother Paul in the ownership and management of The Wharf Tavern Restaurant in Warren, RI, where she worked for nearly twenty years. Betty concluded her career in the business offices of Heatherwood Nursing and Subacute Center, Inc. and subsequently, Village House, both located in Newport, RI, where she always had a smile and kind words for residents and colleagues. Betty also assisted her father and brother Robert by overseeing the financial affairs of Aquidneck Development Co. Inc. for over forty years, in a role that she filled until the time of her death. Besides her husband of 46 years, and her father, she is survived by her sons Joseph H. Olaynack, III and his wife Lisa J. Olayanck, of Middletown, RI, Peter J. Olaynack of New York City, NY and Kevin M. Olaynack of Newport, RI, her much loved brothers Robert S. Lazar of Middletown, RI, Philip R. Lazar of Del Mar, CA and Paul W. Lazar of Winchester, MA, and her three grandchildren, Joseph P. Olaynack, Madison E. Olaynack and Ryan T. Olaynack all of Middletown, RI each of whom provided their ?Noni? with much love and happiness. Her funeral will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2007, at 9:00 am from the Hambly Funeral Home, 30 Red Cross Avenue, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Josephs Church, Broadway and Mann Avenue, Newport. Burial will be in St. Columbas Cemetery in Middletown. Calling hours will be held on Friday, October 5, 2007, from 4-8 in the funeral home.
