Middletown, RI - Elizabeth H. Bernier, 87, of 14 Pocahontas Drive, Middletown, RI, died Thursday, September 18, 2008 at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI. She was the wife of the late Raymond Joseph Bernier. Born in Framingham, MA on January 1, 1921, she was the daughter of the late John Edgar and Ruth Lamson Stripp.Mrs. Bernier was a graduate from the School of Design in Boston, receiving a BA degree in Art Design. After college she entered the Womens Air Corps WAC and served three years, enjoying her time in the service. In 1948 she married her husband Raymond Bernier. After his retirement from a career in the military, they moved back to Rhode Island. She then went to work for, and retired from, Raytheon, working as a word processor. She was active in the Newport Garden Club, was a member of AARP and Friends of the Middletown Library. Mrs. Bernier was a bowler and enjoyed playing bridge with her friends. Elizabeth was the loving mother of Nancy Pyrro of Littleton, MA and Joanne Bernier of Watertown, MA and loving grandmother of Michael Courtright and his wife Michelle of Pelham, NH, Susan Courtright of Chelmsford, MA and Kerri Lane of Spitbrook, NH and three great grandchildren.She was the mother of the late Robert J. Bernier and the sister of the late Richard Stripp. Her funeral will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2008, at 10:00 am in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Burial will be in Newport Memorial Park in Middletown.Calling hours will be held on Friday, September 19 from 4-8 in the funeral home. Donations in her memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 222 Richmond Street, Suite 108, Providence, RI 02903.
