Middletown, RI - Elizabeth Houlihan Dennis, 94, of 1052 East Main Road, Middletown, RI, died Thursday, April 8, 2010 at Forest Farm Health Care Center, Middletown, RI. She was the wife of the late Robert I. Dennis. Born in Newport, RI on January 1, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Edward A. and Mary Barry Houlihan.Tudy, as she was called since childhood, grew up in Newport on Van Zandt Ave. She worked as the office secretary for the Boys Scouts of America in Newport for 20 years. During her time working in that office, she entered and won the Miss Newport Pageant, in 1939. Her prize was a trip to the Worlds Fair in New York City. For a short time she also worked in the finance office at the Newport Naval Base. She and her husband lived on East Main Road in Middletown for over 50 years. Tudy was a member of the Middletown Historical Society, the Edward King House Senior Citizens Center, The Catholic Daughters of America and was a member of St. Lucys Church. She is survived by her daughter Mary Dennis Kelley of Middletown, RI, and her grandchildren, Brian Kelley and Alison Kelley, many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.She was the sister of the late William Houlihan, Edmund Houlihan, Dennis Houlihan, Joseph Houlihan and Marianna Houlihan, John D. Houlihan. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, April, 13 at 8:00am from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00am in St. Lucys Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown. Burial will be in Middletown Cemetery in Middletown.Calling hours will be held on Monday, April 12 from 4:00-7:00pm, in the Memorial Funeral Home. Donations in her memory may be made to the Forest Farm Health Care Center Activities Fund, Forest Avenue, Middletown, RI 02842.
