Newport, RI ? Elizabeth ?Betty? Mary Ionta Curran, 95, of 31 Prescot Hall Road, Newport, RI, died Wednesday, July 19, 2006 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Daniel J. Curran. Born in Newport, RI on December 22, 1910, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Michelena Palazza Ionta.Mrs. Curran was a Communicant of St. Josephs Church. She had been certified by the Red Cross in nursing. Mrs. Curran had worked at Egans Laundry, the former Boston Store and Harlow Creamery for several years. She was an avid bingo player and bowler. She is survived by two daughters Mary E. Gonsalves of Newport, RI, and Catherine Northrup of Jamestown, RI, a brother Silvio Ionta of Vero Beach, FL, a sister Pia Regan of Middletown, RI, two granddaughters Elizabeth and her husband Michael Souza of Bristol, RI, and Jennifer and her husband William Caswell of Jamestown, RI, two great granddaughters Jessica Souza of Bristol, RI, and Catherine Caswell of Jamestown, RI and family friend Michael Mottram of Newport, RI. She was also preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters. Her funeral will be held on Saturday, July 22, at 9:30 a.m. from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Josephs Church, Broadway and Mann Avenue, Newport. Burial will be private. Calling hours will be held Saturday morning, July 22, 2006, from 8:30-9:30 a.m.in the Memorial Funeral Home. Memorial donations in her memory may be made to the Newport Boys and Girls Club, 95 Church Street, Newport, RI, 02840.
