Ellanette F. Lind

Portsmouth, RI - Ellanette F. (Jurd) Lind, 90, of Portsmouth, formerly of Tiverton, RI and Sarasota, FL, died Friday, October 25, 2013 at John Clarke Health Care Center in Middletown, RI. Born in Chicago, IL on January 28, 1923, she was the daughter of the late James E. Jurd and Margaret (Walker) Jurd.Ellen was a graduate of the Ray-Vogue Schools in Chicago for Fashion and Merchandising as well as modeling, and 1942 graduate of Wright Junior College. She also completed training in watch repair and worked in a Chicago department store. During WWII, she then entered the US Navy Reserve in 1944 and began training in aircraft and flight instrument maintenance. She served in the US Navy Reserve until 1966. She married Dr. Earl Lind in 1966 while living in Florida, and they have enjoyed 47 years of marriage.Ellen was the first director of the Island Senior Chorus, which she led for over 10 years, and former member of the Portsmouth Multi-Purpose Senior Center, the Fleet Reserve Association, and an active volunteer for the Newport Hospital Auxiliary with over 1000 hours volunteered. She is survived by husband Earl Lind of Portsmouth and several cousins. A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 28, 2014, at 11am in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.
