Middletown, RI - Ellen McCarthy, AKA "Auntie Helen", of Middletown, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 11, 2013. Born in Newport, RI on August 29, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Elizabeth G. "Bessie" (Wilson) McCarthy.She grew up in the fifth Ward and graduated from St. Catherine's Academy. When her parents died, she moved eventually to Middletown to a whole new life, got her drivers license, and made new lifelong friends. She was a longtime communicant of St. Lucy's Church and never missed a Sunday Mass.Helen is survived by her brother Andrew "Gump" McCarthy of Newport, RI, her sister Stella Huebner (George) of White Lake, MI and several nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews and great grand nieces and nephews, all of whom she cherished and loved dearly.She was the sister of the late Edward McCarthy (Betty Hale), John F. McCarthy (Barbara Haggis) and Betty Reeves McCarthy, all of Newport. She was also predeceased by her beloved companion and dog "Ginger""Auntie Helen" was childish at heart, had inexhaustible energy and was a magnet for children and animals, never tiring of their presence, always entertaining. She was quite a character and was well known "on the road" with all her stories of driving adventures. Her memory and luck with numbers was uncanny, her passion for music unbeatable, and with her loving and giving heart she will be sorely missed.Her memorial Mass will be held in her memory at St. Lucys Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown.
