Elsie Gray Dingus Newport, RI - Elsie Gray Dingus, 93, of 2 Griswold Place, Newport, RI, died Saturday, May 17, 2008, at the John Clarke Health Care Center, Middletown, RI. She was the wife of the late Charles Dingus and the late Clarence Gray.Born in Steelton, PA, on March 5, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Amos and Edythe Berry Spence.Mrs. Dingus moved to the Newport area in 1935. She had worked as a utility aide in the ICU Department at Newport Hospital for many years, retiring in 1980. She had also worked at the Perkins Nursing Home, Elmhurst Academy, and for the Triplett families catering business. Mrs. Dingus was a member of the Community Baptist Church. She was an avid crocheter and knitter.She is survived by two daughters Joan Rozario and her husband Jack of West Newton, MA, and Nancy M. Turner and her husband William of West Newton, MA, a son Donald Arthur Gray and his companion Lorry Nelson of Methuen, MA, six grandchildren Sharon Taylor, Michael Taylor, Donna Turner, Christina M. Yates, John Rozario, and Joanne Smith, and three great grandchildren Lewis Smith, Mackenzie Winn, and Janae Turner; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Dorothy Platt and Eleanor Williams.Her funeral will be held on Friday, May 23, 2008, at 11:00 am in the Community Baptist Church, 50 Dr. Marcus Wheatland Boulevard, Newport. Burial will be in Island Annex Cemetery in Newport.Calling hours will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2008, from 4-8 pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Community Baptist Church, 50 Dr. Marcus Wheatland Boulevard, Newport, RI, 02840, or to the Myrtle Baptist Church, 21 Curve Street, West Newton, MA, 02465.
