Emma Jacobsen Frid of John Clarke Nursing Home and Blenheim, Newport, passed away on Friday, June 18, 2010 at the age of 92. Born in Vernsted, Denmark on May 29, 1918, she was one of thirteen children of Henry Jacobsen and Emilie Larsen Jacobsen.She met her future husband, Tage Frid, before he headed to Iceland after Denmark was liberated in World War II. They were married November 30, 1946 until his passing in May of 2004.Their life together can best be characterized as a true love affair and a couple who worked hard to care for their family. Through the years to friends and colleagues, they were inseparable. At Emmas urging, Tage became a contributing editor for Taunton Presss magazine Fine Woodworking and the author of three venerable books entitled Tage Frid Teaches Woodworking, where he dedicates the first book to her.Emma served as a board member and President of the Foster Center Library in Foster, RI. She dedicated her life to her husband, two children, extended family and friends. Her culinary skills and especially her traditional Danish Smorgasbord were the highlight of many gatherings.Her husband Tage P. Frid, a grandson Nicholas Frid and nine of her siblings predecease her. Her son Peter Frid and his wife Kathy of Madbury, NH and a daughter Ann Randall and her husband Peter of Middletown, RI, survive her. Also five grandchildren, Oliver and Erik Frid, Luke, Ben and Jesse Randall, four great-grandchildren and three sisters, Kirsten Bak, Bodil Laursen, and Ceceillie Henriksen of Denmark and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at a later date and burial will be private.In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the RISD to Tage Emma Frid Scholarship, Attention: Amanda Wright, RISD Development Office, Two College Street, Providence, RI 02903.
