EMMA LEE VEST HOWARD, OF 87 Girard Ave, Newport, RI went to be with the Lord on Monday, November 10th, 2008 at Newport Hospital Newport, RI.She was the wife of the last John Howard II. Born in Waynesboro, VA on April 26, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Ervin and Emma Murray Vest.Mrs. Howard worked at the Newport Hospital as a CSR Technician for twenty six years having recently retired. She also worked as a private duty nurse. Emma has lived a long life here in Newport, RI. She attended the local elementary and high schools. Emma served as a member of the Newport Elks and loved music and dancing, especially gospel. If you knew Emma Lee you were her family. She would fill your stomach with her passion for cooking and spent most of her time with her most precious grandkids. Emma Lee will be missed but never forgotten, especially by her family.She is survived by a son John Howard of Dayton, Ohio, and three daughters Donna Kimble of Newport, RI Debra Nalle of Middletown, RI and Juanita Gaines and her husband Cliffton of Newport News, VA. She also leaves a brother George Vest of Elliston, MA and her nieces Yvonne, Deanna and Michelle. Mrs. Howard was the grandmother of Toriona, Nisha, Onekka, Nigel, Rah-Saan, Neshe, Litita and Isaiah and great grandmother of Toriona, Kyhaira and Jo-Quan. Emma Lee also leaves a host of cousins and friends behind.Calling Hours will be Friday November 14, 2008 at 10am-11 followed by funeral services at 11am, held in the Community Baptist Church, 50 Dr. Marcus Wheatland Boulevard, Newport.Memorial donations may be made to Diabetes Foundation of Rhode Island 1117 Douglas Avenue, Unit 2, North Providence, RI 02904.
