Middletown, RI ? Emma Soares Lima, 96, a resident of the Grand Islander Center in Middletown, RI, and formerly Portsmouth, RI, passed away on Wednesday, April 12, 2006. She was the wife of the late Antone Lima. Born in Fall River, MA, on March 15, 1910, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Amelia DeJesus Soares.Mrs. Lima resided in Portsmouth for 71 years. She was a communicant of St. Anthonys Church. She was know by everyone as Miss Emma. Miss Emma retired in 1967 from the Bristol Knitting Mills in Fall River, MA where she worked as a shipper. She later worked for the Portsmouth Abbey and for the Portsmouth School Department through the senior program. For 14 years from 1982 to 1994 she worked for New Visions, Newport County Head Start Program as an aide. She is survived by two nieces Monica Lima VanSplinter of Mansfield, MA, and Alice Reis Camara of Fall River, MA, and her nephew Frank C. Reis of Cranston, RI Her funeral will be held on Monday, April 17, 2006, at 9:00a.m. from the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00a.m. in St. Anthonys Church, 2836 East Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery in Fall River.Calling hours will be held Monday morning from 8:30-9:30 in the Connors Funeral Home.
