Bristol, - Emmett R. Turner Sr., 82, of 7 Creek Lane, Silver Creek Manor, Bristol, formerly of 6 Pond Avenue, Newport, died Thursday, October 16, 2003 at Veterans Hospital, Providence, RI.He was the husband of Blanche Jones Turner. Born in Newport, RI on August 13, 1921, he was the son of the late George and Dora Pendleton Major. Mr. Turner was the owner and operator of barber shops at the corner of Oak Street and West Broadway in Newport as well as on Marlborough Street and his home for 50 years, retiring in 1972. He was a Veteran of the US Army, serving during WWII as a Corporal. He was a member of the VFW and the DAV. Besides his wife he is survived by a son Emmett R. Turner Jr. of Newport, RI, a step son Louis J. Sims of Newport, RI, a sister Lucy Turner of Philadelphia, PA, 7 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was also the father of the late Ruth Turner and brother of the late George Turner, John Turner, Ruth Turner, and Helena Turner.Funeral services and burial are private. Donations may be made in his memory to Silver Creek Manor, 7 Creek Lane, Bristol, RI, 02809.
