Ernest Allison Triplett Sr

Newport, - Ernest Allison Triplett, Sr., 90, of 30 Newport Avenue, Newport, died Sunday, January 18, 2004 at Village House Newport, RI. He was the husband of the late Grace Audrey Burton Triplett. Born in Newport, RI on Dec. 2, 1913, he was the son of the late George Triplett and the late Lillian Wainwright Triplett.Mr. Triplett worked as a custodian for the Newport School Department for 27 years, retiring in 1978. He also was the equipment manager for the Rogers High School Sports Department. Mr. Triplett was a former Trustee and choir member of the former Mount Olivet Baptist Church, now the Community Baptist Church. He was a member of the Humidors No. 1 of Newport and had won a trip to Japan for being the Long Ash Champion in 1969. Mr. Triplett was a charter member of the Rogers High School Boosters Club, a member of the F.O.P. Middletown Lodge, a former Boy Scout Leader of BSA Troop 1 of Newport, a corporator of Bank of Newport and was on the Board of Corporators of Newport Hospital, a former member of the Board of Directors of the Newport Boys Club and a member of the former singing group The Northern Ayers. Mr. Triplett owned and operated Triplett Catering from 1950 to 1980, and catered parties for the rich and famous catered many benefit parties in Newport. He had catered for the Kennedys, Eisenhower, Auchincloss, Seantors Chaffee and Pell and the for Newport Hospital Balls. He is survived by four sons, George H. Triplett of Newport, RI, Ernest A. Triplett Jr. of West Newton, MA, David B. Triplett of Haverhill, MA, and Karl D. Triplett of Newport, RI, two daughters Retired Navy Commander Audrain M. Triplett of Middletown, RI, and Sheila L. ONeal of Lake Charles, LA, nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was the brother of the late John Triplett, Leroy Triplett, Harold Triplett, Lillian Triplett, Georgiana Triplett, Gladys Pendleton, and Ruth Triplett. His funeral will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2004, at 11:00AM, in Community Baptist Church, 50 Dr. Marcus Wheatland Boulevard, Newport. Burial will be in Newport Memorial Park in Middletown.
