Ernest G. Jones

Newport, RI- Ernest G. Jones, 62, of Newport, died unexpectedly on Saturday, August 2, 2014. Born in Newport, RI on August 15, 1951, he was the son of the late John Robert Jones and Frances G. Batey. During the 1980's he worked at NUWC and in the late 80's he owned and operated his store New York in Newport Metropolitan Clothing. He then became a self-employed landscaper. He is survived by his son Ernest E. Simmons of Newport, RI, his daughter Pamela G. Woods of Norfolk, VA, his sisters Barbara Hargrow of Middletown, RI, and Katherine E. Browner of Newport, RI and five grandchildren.He was the father of the late Michael Simmons and Anthony Simmons and brother of the late Manuel Penna and John "Bucky" Jones. Calling hours will be held on Monday, August 11, 2014, from 10-11, with a service to follow at 11am, in the Community Baptist Church, 50 Dr. Marcus Wheatland Boulevard, Newport. Burial will be in Middletown Cemetery in Middletown.
