Ernest Vance Lenzi, 74, died peacefully on December 30, 2015 at Grand Islander in Middletown, RI with his wife by his side. He was the husband of Shirley (Jarjoura) Lenzi. They shared 50 years of marriage. Born in Dearborn, MI on July 11, 1941, he was the son of Ernest and Nina (Sutton) Lenzi. He lived his early years in Canada and Farmington, IL where he graduated high school. He earned his Bachelors and Masters of Engineering from the University of Illinois. He continued his education at Brown University.He began his career at Bell Telephone Laboratories in New Jersey and later in Wheaton, IL. He was employed at Raytheon in Portsmouth, RI, as a Software Engineer, where he retired after 30 years.Vance had a love of classical music. He played French Horn with the Newport Concert Band, Greater Fall River Symphony, and the Narragansett Brass Ensemble. He had an unending thirst for knowledge and enjoyed reading; along with golf, bowling, sailing and bridge. He was extremely proud to be an Eagle Scout and Order of Arrow member. He was an AARP volunteer doing Income taxes. He enjoyed traveling especially to France and Italy. He is survived by his wife Shirley; his children, Lisa Hale (Alan) of Mountain Brook, AL, Vance Lenzi (Megan) of Framingham, MA, and Kristen Raposa (Michael) of Southington, CT; and grandchildren Salvatore, Nicholas, Julia, Anthony, Elise, Kevin, Nathan, Reese, Alan, Elizabeth and Carter and his siblings Virgil Lenzi, Margo Warfield, Maryellen Chatterton and Victor Lenzi all of Illinois.Calling hours will be held on Sunday, January 3, from 3:00-7:00pm in Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth.His funeral will be held on Monday, January 4, at 9:00am from the Connors Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth. His burial will follow in Trinity Cemetery, East Main Road, Portsmouth.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donation be made in the name of Ernest Vance Lenzi to the National Stroke Association (
