Esther R. Heffernan

Esther M. Heffernan, died Saturday, October 4, 2008 at home in Newport. She was the wife of the late Frank Heffernan who died in 1982. Born in Wallingford, CT, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Elvira Columba Riccitelli.She is survived by two children Elaine Consuella Woodford of Fairfax, VA and Newport, RI, and Frederick F. Heffernan of Wilton, CT, and three grandchildren Priscilla Woodford of Fairfax, VA, Valerie Shea of Arlington, MA, and Kyle Woodford of Virginia.Esther was a Registered Nurse for many years after graduating from St. Raphaels School of Nursing. She was also a nurse in the US Navy and a veteran of WWII.She also leaves two sisters Louise Carroll and Rose Phelan, and a brother John Riccitelli all of Wallingford, CT, and many nieces and nephews.Esther was involved in many activities through the years, but her favorite was her weekly Bridge Foursome. Until her illness, she was a volunteer at the Newport Art Museum Griffin Shop for many years.Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, October 8, at 8:00 am from the Hambly Funeral Home, 30 Red Cross Avenue, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 am in St. Marys Church, Spring Street, Newport. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown.
