Middletown, RI - Ethel Marjorie Harrington Shenk Lawton, 87, of Haymaker Road, Middletown, RI, died Monday, October 18, 2010 at Grand Islander Health Care Center, Middletown.She was the wife of the late Harry Z. Lawton and the late S/Sgt. Henry H. Shenk, USMC.Born in Newport, RI on April 11, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Charles F. Harrington, Jr. and the late Ethel Anthony Harrington McDonough.Before her marriage, she was employed by the former Rhode Island Hospital Trust Company. She was a member of the Edward King House, the Middletown Senior Center, the Portsmouth Multi-purpose Senior Center, Nestell Chapter O.E.S., the Newport County AARP Chapter #207, and was a former Director of the Townsend Aid for the Aged. She was a graduate of Rogers High School class of 1940. She was also a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church, belonging to the Ladies Aid Society and ELCA. She is survived by her son, David H. Shenk and his wife, Gloria Furgason, of Lilburn, GA, her daughter, Marjorie A Lawton of Middletown, RI, her granddaughter, Stacey Lewis and her husband, Josh, of Alpharetta, GA and many nieces and nephews.She was the sister of the late Charles Andrew Swede Harrington. A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2010, at 2:00 pm in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI.Calling hours are omitted.Burial will be private.Donations in her memory may be made to St. Peters Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 525 Broadway, Newport, RI 02840 or to your favorite charity.
