Ethelinda Prescott Groff

Newport, RI - Ethelinda Prescott (Leary) Groff, 95, of Newport, RI, died Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI. She was the wife of the late Ray Gladding Groff. Born in New York City, NY on December 23, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Ethelinda (Prescott) Leary.Mrs. Groff was an artist. Some of her art work is hung at the Newport Hospital, Forest Farm Health Care Center, and Spring Bull Studios and in her family's homes. She was a member of Emmanuel Church, and was one of the founding members of the Mosaic Club and was involved with the Tuesday Group at church. Mrs. Groff was very talented in many forms of art, and was an exceptional seamstress. She is survived by her sons Thomas R. Groff and his wife Mary of Newport, RI, and Douglas Groff and his wife Jacqueline of Portsmouth, RI, her daughter Beverlee Taber and her husband Dennis of Newport, RI, eight grandchildren, and twenty-one great grandchildren.She was the sister of the late Nell Tomanek. A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 23, 2012, at 10:00AM in Emmanuel Church, 42 Dearborn Street, Newport. Burial will be private.
