Evelyn D. Ferretti

Middletown, RI - Evelyn D.Diaz Ferretti, 74, of 10 Donald Drive, Middletown, RI, died Sunday, January 24, 2010 at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI. She was the wife of Pasco Ferretti. Born in Newport, RI on May 14, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Joseph B. and Mary Lewis Diaz. In addition to her husband of twenty years, she is survived by her son Theodore Kerry Parkos of Middletown, RI, her daughter Deborah P. Flaherty of Providence, RI, a son John Parkos, Jr. of Providence, RI, and a daughter Dana Pimental of Jacksonville, FL, and step sons John Ferretti of Columbia, SC, Michael Ferretti of Lake Worth, FL, James Ferretti of Bristol, RI, and as well as eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.Mrs. Ferretti was a lifelong resident of Aquidneck Island. She graduated from Truesdale Hospital School of Nursing in 1956. She kept in close touch with many of her classmates over the last 50 years and was a member of the Truesdale Hospital Nurses Alumnae Association. While at nursing school, Evelyn was in the Art Club, First Aid Club, Chemistry Club, Knitting Club and on the Binnacle Staff. After graduation she worked at Newport Hospital and the nursing homes John Clarke in Middletown, and what is now known as Heatherwood in Newport.Evelyn enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She loved taking care of her garden and spending time at the beach with her family and friends. She remained active with her alumnae group from Truesdale Hospital and organized many fundraisers to provide grants for nursing students. Her funeral will be held on Friday, 29, 2010 at 8:00am from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00am in Jesus Saviour Church, Broadway and Vernon Ave, Newport. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown.Calling hours will be held Thursday, January 28, 2010, from 4:00-8:00pm in the Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society Of Rhode Island, 931 Jefferson Blvd., Suite 3004, Warwick, RI 02886 in lieu of flowers.
