Evelyn M. Fernandes

Middletown, RI - Evelyn M. (Gomes) Fernandes, 91, of Middletown, died Thursday, April 11, 2013 at Heatherwood Nursing and Subacute Center Newport, RI. She was the wife of the late Joseph R. Fernandes. Born in Portsmouth, RI on January 23, 1922, she was the daughter of the late James and Mary (Matos) Gomes. Mrs. Fernandes worked for 30 years as a seamstress in the mills in Fall River, MA. She loved gardening, taking care of her home, but most of all she loved her grandchildren and the name they bestowed upon her "Silly Nanna". She is survived by her daughters Carolyn Forst of Middletown, RI and Evelyn Nann of Georgetown, SC, eleven brothers and sisters, her grandchildren, Courtney and Christopher Forst, her great grandchildren, Olivia Forst, Trinity, Matthew and Hailey Abeyllez and Joseph Marques. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 15, 2013, at 9am in St. Lucy's Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown, RI.
