Evelyn M. Lynch

August 2, 1930 — June 24, 2013

Evelyn was the wife of the late Robert E. Lynch and daughter of the late Patrick Joseph Segerson and Evelyn Mae Locke Segerson. Evelyn was a graduate of St. Catherine Academy 1947 and a graduate of Newport Secretarial School. She worked in the Newport Creamery in the early days and also worked as a secretary to the Radiologists at Newport Hospital and in the Marketing Department at Raytheon for 15 years.Evelyn enjoyed her career with the Girl Scouts and for 25+ years went from Brownie to Scout to Troop Leader. She enjoyed primitive camping and taught the scouts many of the skills needed for this. She loved the many boats she and her husband owned over the years and became quite knowledgeable about the sailing boats and sights around Newport harbor. America's Cup and Tall Ships were among her favorites! As an avid photographer, she documented the happenings of Newport. She belonged to Newport Power Squadron, helped teach the Basic Boating course with the Coast Guard Auxiliary ("try and stump me with a situation or a question!"), contributed some photography to the Middletown Historical Society, and was an avid golfer for many years at the Green Valley Country Club.As she grew older, her one real goal was to golf 18 holes at the age of 80. Unfortunately, she was not able to make this goal. She instead was able to go to the range at Newport Rifle Club and to shoot some small bore rifle on that 80th birthday. She enjoyed this very much.Evelyn is a good woman and will be missed greatly by all her family and friends. She wanted the resident assistants, med techs, dining room staff, and housekeeping at Blenheim to know how much she appreciated their help in her last days. They were invaluable to her. Thank-You.Funeral arrangements will be private but if anyone would like to donate money, please do so to Home Hospice Care of Rhode Island in Providence.
