Middletown, RI - Evelyn M. Santos Martins, 82, of 14 Balsam Street Middletown, died Friday, January 21, 2005 at Heatherwood Nursing And Subacute Center Newport, RI.She was the wife of the late Peter L. Martins. Born in Newport, RI on September 25, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Frank B. and Emily Oliver Santos. Mrs. Martins worked at the former Bell System Phone Company for many years on Bull Street as a telephone operator. She continued work as an operator at the Newport Hospital from 1970 to 1988. She was a member of Jesus Saviour Church, the Vasco da Gama Holy Ghost Society and the Portuguese American Women?s Civic League. Mrs. Martins enjoyed ceramics, going to the beach, taking and collecting photos. She is survived by her daughter Donna Martins of Middletown, RI, her brother Arthur Santos of Newport, RI, three sisters Emily Parvo and Alice Santos both of Newport, RI, and Agnes Brosseau of North Smithfield, RI, and several nieces and nephews.She was the sister of the late Frank ?Jake? Santos, Mike Santos, Al Santos and Edna Santos. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, January 25, 2005, at 8:00AM, from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian burial at 9:00 AM, in Jesus Saviour Church, Broadway And Vernon Avenue, Newport. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown. In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to Vasco Da Gama Scholarsip Fund, Fenner Avenue, Newport, RI 02840.
