Newport, RI - Evelyn Vera Marcotte, 89, of Newport, RI, died on Sunday August 31, 2014, at home. For 52 years, she was the beloved wife of the late Roland G. Marcotte. Born in Newport, RI on April 30, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Pasquale and Loreta (Marcaccio) Morrone.Evelyn was a graduate of Rogers High School, class of 1943, and after graduation, she worked in merchandising at the former William Leys Dry Goods Company, which was located on Thames Street. In 1952, she began employment by the City of Newport in the office of the Newport Water Department which was then located on West Marlborough Street and in 1960 became employed at the Newport City Hall in the Tax and Water Collections Division. Evelyn was appointed Collections Supervisor in 1977, and retired from the City of Newport in 1983, after thirty one years of service. After retirement she worked part time as a sales associate for the Preservation Society of Newport County and volunteered for the Newport Hospital Auxiliary Gift Shop. She was a communicant of St. Josephs Church in Newport and a member of the American Association of Retired Persons and the Preservation Society of Newport County. Evelyn loved gardening and traveling. In her retirement years she and her late husband Roland spent many winters in Florida. She is survived by her d daughter Marilyn J. Gniadek and her husband Roger of Camden, DE, her two sisters Carmen Marie Morrone of Newport, RI and Clemence A. Bunch of LaJolla, CA and two nephews, Carl and Paul Bunch of LaJolla, CA.She was the sister of the late Angelo P. Morrone and Lena L. Morrone.Calling hours will be held on Monday September 8, 2014 from 4-8pm in the Memorial Funeral Home 375 Broadway, Newport.Her life will be celebrated on Tuesday September 9, 2014, at 9am from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway Newport, RI with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am, in St. Joseph's Church, Broadway and Mann Avenue, Newport.
