Portsmouth, - Everett Paul ?Perky? Correia, 75, of 105 Dexter Street, Portsmouth, died Sunday, December 7, 2003 at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI.He was the husband of Phyllis Coggeshall Correia to whom he was married to for 56 years. Born in Fall River, MA, on April 29, 1928, he was the son of the late Alfred and Mary Anselmo Correia. Mr. Correia had worked as a steam fitter for over 30 years for the Local Steamfitters Union #77 of Fall River, MA, and New Bedford, MA. He had served as President of the Union for 10 years, from 1982, until retirement in 1992. He was a Communicant of St. Anthonys Church in Portsmouth. He was a member of the Portuguese American Citizens Club of Portsmouth, where he served as Past President. He had been a member of the club since 1944, having served in all positions in the club. He attended the first St. Anthonys Feast as a baby and has attended every feast since then, having served as chairman many times. He had also served as the auctioner at the feast and had been the guest auctioner at surrounding feasts in Southern New England. He was a member and past president of the Portsmouth Lions Club. He had served on the Portsmouth Town Council for a period of 6 years, which included two years as vice chairman. Mr. Correia enjoyed playing his ?guitarra? which is a Portuguese mandolin in a local band for over 15 years. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and was well known for his generosity to the needy. Besides his wife he is survived by two sons Everett P. Correia Jr. of Portsmouth, RI, and Mark A. Correia of Portsmouth, RI, six daughters Nancy Souza of Portsmouth, RI, Mary Correia of Portsmouth, RI, Beverly Gorton of Portsmouth, RI, Karen Gleason of Portsmouth, RI, Laura Rogers of Portsmouth, RI, and Kristen Moreira of Portsmouth, RI, two brothers James Correia of Portsmouth, RI, and Adley Correia of Portsmouth, RI, a sister Connie Gracik of Portsmouth, RI, 14 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Henry Correia, Alfred Correia, Alma Correia and Mary Mello.His funeral will be held Wednesday, December 10, 2003, at 9:00 AM from the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Anthonys Church, 2836 East Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial will be in Portsmouth Cemetery, Turnpike Avenue, Portsmouth. Memorial donations may be made to the Portsmouth Volunteer Fire Department Rescue Wagon Fund, P.O. Box 806, Portsmouth, RI, 02871.
