Portsmouth, - Everett Van Hof, 83, of 54 Valley Lane Portsmouth, died Sunday, October 5, 2003 at home.He was the husband of the late Jean E. Burns Van Hof. Born in Mineola, Long Island, NY on August 9, 1920, he was the son of the late Martin and Marie Guldemond Van Hof.Mr. Van Hof served in the Navy during World War II in the pacific on Guam and Okinawa as a Seabee. He was co-founder of Van Hof Nursery and Island Garden Shop in 1946 with his brothers Klaas and Bob. Mr. Van Hof was a member of the International Plant Propagators, the RI Nurserymens Association and was Past President of the Portsmouth Rotary. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and his grandchildren. He is survived by his daughter Ellen Dalstra of Newport, RI, three sons John Van Hof of Tiverton, RI, Gregory Van Hof of Jacksonville, FL, and Thomas Van Hof of Portsmouth, RI, his brother Robert Van Hof of Portsmouth, RI, his sister Alice Eaton of North Berwick, ME, nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.He was the brother of the late Klaas Van Hof. His funeral will be private.Donations in his memory may be made to the Portsmouth Volunteer Fire Dpt. Rescue Wagon Fund, P.O. Box 806, Portsmouth, RI 02871.
