Faith M. Mendes

Faith M. (Angell) Mendes, 88, of Portsmouth died Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, RI. She was the wife of the late Joseph M. Mendes, Jr.Born on November 16, 1926 in Warwick, RI, she was the daughter of the late Charles Henry and Olive M. (Joyal) Angell. Mrs. Mendes was the former Post Mistress for the Bristol Ferry Post Office, the former owner (along with her late husband) of Bristol Ferry Flowers, and worked as a waitress at various local restaurants. She loved to sit and enjoy the view from her home of the Mt. Hope Bridge and Bay, but enjoyed nothing more than spending time with her beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her daughters Sandra Van Hof and her husband David of Tiverton, RI, and Carol A. Young of Berlin, MA, her sister Doris Palmquist of Warwick, RI, and her brother Harold Angell of Newport, RI, her granddaughters; Heather Tucker and her husband Todd, Amy Crandall and her partner Patrick, Lori Young-Oliwa and her husband Neil, and Allison Behnke and her husband David, and her great grandchildren; Blake Crandall, Brandon Oliwa, Rachel Oliwa, Meghan Oliwa, Charlotte Behnke and Alyssa Behnke.She was the sister of the late George Angell, Charles Angell, Donald Angell, Earl Angell, Ernest Angell, and Roy Chappelle.Calling hours will be held on Friday, September 18, 2015, from 4:00-7:00pm, in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth.Her funeral will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2015, at 9:00am, from Connors Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00am, in St. Anthonys Church, 2836 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI.Burial will be in Newport Memorial Park, Howland Avenue, Middletown.Donations in her memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 1 State Street, Suite 200, Providence, RI 02908.
