Middletown, RI - Fay M. Harris Allen, 88, of Middletown, RI, passed at her home of 59 years on Sunday, March 8, 2009. Born in Newport, RI on November 17, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Eva Levesque Harris. A lifelong resident of Aquidneck Island, she graduated from the 1st class at the former St. Catherine Academy on Bellevue Avenue. In her 20s she worked as a domestic in many of the areas wealthy homes most notably for the Grosvenors at their former Harrison Avenue estate and winter estate in Scottsdale, AZ and she also worked at the former Bellevue Nursing Home. In 1950 she married the late Dr. Cyril J. Allen DVM and moved into the home that was built for her and she resided for 59 years, raising three children. She enjoyed long walks at her country setting with her beloved dogs and cats of which over the years there were many. She also enjoyed the varied wildlife of the area and had a particular fondness for the beautiful species of birdlife. Fay enjoyed and loved children, and after her own were grown would participate in a Fresh Air Fund Program bringing inner city kids into her home to enjoy sunshine, beaches and some tender loving care. Fay was born Roman Catholic and all through her life time possessed a strong and devoted believe in her faith. She drove herself every weekend to St. Lucys for Mass, until the age of 84 when because of her health reasons she couldnt make the drive any longer. Still every Sunday she would tune in to Holy Mass on her TV while saying her prayers. She is survived by her children, C. Rhett Allen of Middletown, RI, Margaret Maurano and her husband Richard of North Marshfield, MA and Elizabeth Bouch and her husband David of Little Compton, RI, her sister Jeanette Norris of Mathiston, MI, her sister-in-law Dorothy Harris of Casselberry, FL, her granddaughters Leah Allen Bouch of Little Compton, RI and Mary Theresa Maurano of North Marshfield, MA and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Charles Harris, Eva V. Shelton and Nona M. Busch.Her funeral will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2009, at 9:00 am from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Lucys Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown.
