Middletown, RI ? Filomena Mello Escobar, 99, of 424 Third Beach Road, Middletown, RI, died Tuesday, December 26, 2006 at Heatherwood Nursing and Subacute Center, Newport, RI. She was the wife of the late John R. Escobar. Born in Middletown, RI on October 9, 1907, she was the daughter of the late Jesse V. and Mary Stark Mello. She is survived by her children John F. Escobar of Yerington, NV, George H. Escobar of North Kingstown, RI, and Rose M.E. Faustino of Middletown, RI, her sisters Rose Gomes of Newport, RI, Frances Pinheiro of Portsmouth, RI, Frinclina Veader of Rehoboth, MA, and Ann DeSilvia of Middletown, RI, thirteen grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and fourteen great-great grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Henry Escobar, Mary Woolhouse and Joseph Escobar and the sister of the late Jesse Mello, Joseph Mello and Mary Lima. Her funeral will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2006, at 8:00 am from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 am in Jesus Saviour Church, Broadway and Vernon Avenue, Newport. Burial will be in St. Columbas Cemetery in Middletown.Calling hours will be held on Friday, December 29, 2006, from 4-8pm in the Memorial Funeral Home.
