Fleming "Timmy" Smith Iii

Fleming Tinsley "Timmy" Smith III, 65, of Newport, died Sunday, May 12, 2013 at Heatherwood Nursing And Subacute Center Newport, RI. Born in Boston, MA on February 1, 1948, he was the son of the late Fleming Tinsley Smith and Ruth C Smith.Timmy grew up in Philadelphia and as a young man and soon began his singing career. He recorded a hit record with the band "The Show Stoppers, and began touring Europe with them on several occasions. He later settled in Newport with other family members and built a wide network of friends. He worked at Raytheon for several years and also worked as a security guard at NUWC.He is survived by his daughter Ruth C Baker (Victor) of Cleveland, OH, his brother Earl Smith of Newport, RI, his sister in law Brenda Smith of Middletown, RI, his sisters Barbara Lopez of Newport, RI, and Linda Rollins (Ray) of Crossville, TN, his nieces and nephews Earl Smith Jr, Lisa Pleasant, Latisha Boyd, Hope Smith, Amanda Bliss, Antoinette Daniel, Tony Daniel, Christopher Daniel, Charlie Greene, Leah Lopez and Michael Lopez. He is also survived by his grandchildren Dante Walker, Idris Jackson, Jacquez Jackson, DaLaun Jackson, and his great grandchildren Harmonie Walker and Heaven Walker .Calling hours will be held on Thursday, May 16 from 6:00-9:00pm in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.His funeral will be held on Friday, May 17, 2013 at 11:00am in the Community Baptist Church, 50 Dr. Marcus Wheatland Blvd, Newport.
