Flora C. Soares

Flora (Figueiredo) Soares, 86, of Middletown died Friday, February 13, 2015 at home surrounded by her family. She was the wife of Norman Soares.Born on June 8, 1928 in Newport, RI, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Mary (Silvia) Figueiredo, the last surviving of 10 children.Flora graduated from Rogers High School and worked at the former GE Monowatt Plant, before she began her career as a baker in local grocery stores finally retiring from Shaws. She loved travelling, was a member of the Quahog Chapter Camping Club, loved a good find at the flea markets or a deal shopping, going to plays at PPAC, and she loved everything about the Holidays. Flora was a longtime communicant of St. Lucy's Church.Besides her husband of 67 years, she is survived by her children, Norman "Dusty" Soares of Newport, RI, Tracy Soares and his wife Heidi of Middletown, RI, Cindy Haskell and her husband Michael of Fall River, MA and Susan L. Ribera of Newport, RI, five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.She was the sister of the late John Figueiredo, Joseph Figueiredo, Antonio Figueiredo, Mary Ridle, Beatrice Rochefort, Rose Hunter, Nellie Ford, Vena Phillips and Helen Peckham.Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, February 17, 2015, from 4:00-7:00pm, in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, February 18, 2015, at 9:30, from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30, in St. Lucy's Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown.
