Middletown, RI - Flora Theresa (Tougas) Dor, 88, of 76 Purgatory Rd. Middletown, passed away on Sunday, June 29, 2014, at Blenheim surrounded by her family. Flora was born in Pawtucket, RI on July 26, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Edmond and Ernestine (Belanger) Tougas, and wife of the late Armand J. "Red" Dor Jr. Mrs. Dor lived her life with devotion to her family, friends and church. She attended St. Catherine's Academy in Newport. Flora began her career as a corsetiere and bra fitter with her mother at the age of 16. Together, they served clientele at The Madame Tougas Corset Shop at 178 Bellevue Ave. until its closing in 1958. Flora and Red married on May 31, 1958 in St. Joseph's Church. She was a loving home-maker, and in 1975 she resumed her fitting career at Cherry Webb and later at Peerless. Forever dedicated to her craft, Flora came out of retirement at the age of 75 working for Deborah Winthrop when she opened her lingerie shop in September 1999. Well into her 70s Flora was blessed with inexhaustible energy. Always the life of the party, and an accomplished seamstress and tailor, Flora loved gardening, outings to First beach and spending time with her friends. She also volunteered with Child and Family Services as a friendly visitor and was a longtime parishioner of St. Mary's Church where she was very involved with church activities. She is survived by her children, William Dor of Middletown, RI, and Barbara Wright of Little Compton, RI, her sister Sr. Marie Tougas Sfcc. of Florida, and her grandchildren, Lars Wright and Michelle Wright. She was the sister of the late Eugene Tougas, Ernest Tougas, Louis Tougas, Raymond Tougas and Francis Tougas.Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2014, from 4:00-7:00p.m., at the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.Her funeral will be held on Thursday, July 3, 2014, with a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00a.m., in St. Marys Catholic Church, Spring Street, Newport.
