PORTSMOUTH, RI ? CDR. F.M. ?SPIKE? Sullivan, 78, of 109 Adams Drive, Portsmouth, RI died Friday, April 8, 2005at home. He was the husband of Barbara Baxter Sullivan. Born in Andover, MA on February 25, 1927, he was the son of the late John and Elizabeth Greely Sullivan.Spike was a Real Estate Broker and Developer in Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Connecticut, concentrating his efforts on Aquidneck Island. CDR. F.M. ?SPIKE? SULLIVAN enlisted in the U.S. Navy in October, 1944 and graduated Officers Candidate School in 1955. Commander Sullivan was commissioned in September of 1955. As a commissioned officer, he served aboard the USS McCARD, on the Staff of Commander Destroyer Squadron TWENTY FOUR at the Naval Communications Station in Washington, D.D., as a Commanding Officer of the USS SOMERSWORTH, as Executive Officer of the USS HANK, and on the Staff of Commander Destroyer Squadron TEN. He served as Executive Officer of the Naval Communications Station in San Miguel, Phillipines, and finally as Commanding Officer of the USS WILLIAM R. RUSH, before retiring in 1972. He served in 3 wars over 27 years in the U.S. Navy, including 2 years on loan with the Royal Canadian Navy. Besides his beloved wife of 53 years, he is survived by his children Michael D. Sullivan of Bristol, RI, Jean Sullivan Ciejka of Portsmouth, RI, Doreen Sullivan Beck of Warren, RI, and Karen Sullivan Day of North Kingstown, RI, his brothers James Sullivan of Greenville, NC, and AJ Sullivan of Farmington, NC, his sister Elizabeth Lawlor of Framingham, MA, eight grandchildren Michael Ciejka and Jennifer Ciejka both of Portsmouth, RI, Brian, Thomas and William Sullivan of Bristol, RI, Alexandra Sullivan and Leland Beck both of Warren, RI, and Christopher Day of North Kingstown, RI.He was the brother of the late John, Edward, Margaret and Mary Sullivan. A graveside service will be held Friday, April 15, 2005 at 11:30 am in North Burial Ground, Route 114, Bristol.
